Biography

Born and brought up in Cardiff, Brian attended the Welsh College of Music and Drama to study classical guitar.  After completing his studies there he went on to gain his B.Mus at Cardiff University.  Having developed a passion for composition he continued his studies with a M.Mus from Goldsmiths' College, studying under Stanley Glasser.

He performed as a guitarist doing solo work as well as half of a duet with tenor Maldwyn Davies.  Together they commissioned new works, performed at festivals from London to Fishguard and were recorded by the BBC.

He created and conducted the contemporary music group,  Network Chamber Ensemble, in 1984 to perform the works of young Welsh composers.  The group performed at various venues and festivals in Wales and England including St David's Hall in Cardiff.

In 2007 he was selected as one of the Shortlisted composers by Sound and Music.  As a result of this he had his work 'Points of Decision' chosen for performance by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by James MacMillan, in  February 2008.

He has had various works performed over the years (see lists of works for details)

He has been Head of Music at the United World College of the Atlantic since 1984.  He is a member of the Composers of Wales/Cyfansoddwr Cymru, the Society for the Promotion of New Music and the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
